DAY 2 The hard slog!

Captain Morgans Log: 5/4/2015.
Well as I write this we got back very late evening. We are now in Ambleside and covered 40+ miles. It's was very foggy early this morning when we started at the shore line, where the tide was right out in St Bees. We wet our feet which is the tradition and picked a stone up from the shore for us then to throw into the sea when we get to Robin Hoods Bay. We moved along the main road in heavy fog passed Sellafield, so we had to be very careful which slowed us down due to the Easter Sunday traffic.

After that we moved across onto Gosforth and then Eskdale where we met up with my inlaws and daughters again before they headed home. They supplied us with water luckily as there was no drinking water at the campsite!

From Eskdale we moved on cross country to the foot of Hardknott Pass and Wrynoss Pass. This was the biggest climb of the day, dodging vehicles on the long windy uphill road. The weather at this point had cleared and was a beautiful warm sunny day. Bank holiday visitors delayed things quite a bit and by the time we left the mountains it was starting to get dark. We still had 12 miles left!

(By the way there is video of some parts but I will sort that when this is finished.) We had to put more pace on as the mist was quickly creeping down over the mountains. We managed to move through various villages and eventually Amblesides main road which seemed an eternity, on coming traffic in the dark made things very tricky. So we are now camping on Ambleside United's Football pitch, but too late for food so we had to muster what we had in our bags. Early start for the 30 miler to Kirkby Stephen in the morning. I will report again tomorrow evening. Just one more thing, all the running and exercise we have done prior to this was still not enough for what we encountered today. To be honest we are truly cream crackered! Night! X
