DAY 5, Pounding pavements

Captains Morgans Log: 8/4/2015

Early start again this morning. The hostel we stayed at was great, but the heat in the room seemed to inflate all the swellings and blisters. So after, Tiger balm, gauses, dressings, plasters, Ibrophen, Co codomol and foot powder, we were ready to set off for Richmond. The weather has been very good to us so far but also unfortunate that we forgot to pack suncream!

After a short break we then moved on through the rolling hills of the dales with the river Swale to keep us company. Our moral was very low due to the pain. We were fine in ourselves and had the energy but the body just wasn't as receptive. Swollen ankles and knees were starting to appear and the shear pounding obviously was showing through.
The length of this stretch was 33 miles so altogether up to this point since we started during the 4 days, we have covered 145 miles.

From Richmond we made the long journey through Yafforth and Northallerton before reaching Brompton where the Green Tree Inn sits. Obviously our surname is of the same name and also the same place where we took a picture back when we did the C2C bike in 2011 with our dad as back up and my good friend Martin King-Sheard as fellow cyclist.
The terrain was changing all the time, but the road leading to Osmotherley was pretty dangerous with the rush hour traffic. We phoned the campsite to say that we may be late but they said we had to be quick in order to get food. So we really had to put our foot down. So again the yomping turned into running. Baring in mind that our Bergen backpacks weighed roughly 35lbs it was really becoming difficult.

We reached the campsite slightly before dusk with meals waiting at the table. As I write this my brother is currently having a bath! Yes a bath at the campsite. The Campsite and hostel is called Cote Gyhll in Osmotherley and the staff are really freindly.
So tomorrow is the second to last stage, another 30 miles or so through the North Yorkshire moors. The next stop is Glaisdale where I will report back again then. Cheers for now!
