We will be starting at St Bees on the west coast and walking through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors ending up in Robin Hoods Bay near Whitby. We will be carrying everything we need on our backs and mainly camping on route with an occasional youth hostel stop off and painkillers!!!!
The charity we are supporting is Hayward house.
Hayward House is a specialist palliative care cancer unit in the grounds of the City Hospital. It provides high quality care centred on the needs of patients and their families. Its aim is to enrich the quality of life through the skills of an experienced and caring team. Hayward House offers palliative care from diagnosis, through the interim periods of advancing disease, up to and including end of life care. Patients’ pain and other symptoms are addressed; so too are emotional, spiritual and social problems of both patients and their families. A bereavement / counselling service is also provided. (Taken from their website)
Hayward house was a special place and you can really see why donations are needed as the care and compassion towards patients and families are next to none and the facilities are brilliant however, they rely on donations and this is why we feel so strongly about raising money for this area of the City hospital.
In April 2013 James Greentree lost his battle with bowel cancer at the age of 69. James was an ex scout then Royal Marine serving in Borneo and Northern Ireland. He was a fantastic dad and a true friend to us who will be truly missed. Walking and the outdoors were our dad’s escape from the world and he never got to walk Wainwrights Coast 2 Coast.
Please support us by donating or just cheering us along if you see us training in Nottingham
